House Bill Aims to Enhance Cybersecurity at HHS

New legislation in the House would establish a chief information security officer position at the Department of Health and Human Services in an effort to beef up cybersecurity at the agency.

The bill, introduced by Rep. Billy Long (R-Mo.) and backed by Rep. Doris Matsui (D-Calif.), stems from a 2015 investigation by the House Energy and Commerce Committee into the state of data security at HHS following a data breach at the Federal Drug Administration in October 2013, which revealed cybersecurity issues throughout HHS.
