The move comes after Cabinet Office Minister Matthew Hancock gave a briefing on the dangers of cyber attacks posed by criminals, as shown by last month’s TalkTalk breach where information relating to 157,000 customers was illegally accessed.
“The Prime Minister laid down the law and urged every minister to ensure their department was up to speed with data protection, urging them to run test attacks by GCHQ [the government’s surveillance service] or even outside firms,” a source told the Sunday Times.
