The Defence secretary of the United Kingdom, Michael Fallon MP, has announced a massive endowment to create a new Cyber-Security Operations Centre (CSOC) for the Ministry of Defence (MoD).
The £40 million fund comes as part of an even larger £1.9 billion to be invested in the UK’s cyber-security over the next five years. The funds were called for in last November’s Strategic Defence and Security Review and according to the Ministry “will transform the MoD’s operational cyber-security capabilities”.
The UK was one of the first countries to admit to having a dedicated offensive capability in the cyber-realm, and Fallon said that though the UK is a “world leader in cyber-security”, it’s facing a growing problem in the form of cyber-threats.
