PRESS RELEASE
SINGAPORE – The inaugural Asia Pacific Homeland Security (APHS) conference and exhibition (CONFEX) has confirmed its spot as the leading urban resilience forum, hosting participants from over 40 countries and 20 delegations from ASEAN countries as well as from Fiji, Maldives, Mongolia, Pakistan and Sri Lanka this week.
Held from 27-30 October 2015, APHS 2015 is the region’s first conference and exhibition devoted to the issues of urban resilience and disaster relief. It had garnered high levels of support both from the public and private sectors, with senior personnel from the region’s security forces, military and disaster relief agencies making up the mix of participants.
Among those from Singapore who attended the APHS conference and exhibition are officers from the Ministry of Transport, the Singapore Police Force and the Singapore Armed Forces.
Mr Patrick Colas des Francs, CEO of COGES, said the support from the delegations and participants provided a great start to the first edition of APHS.
“Over the four days, APHS had provided our participants with a unique platform to discuss matters related to the prevention and management of natural and industrial disasters in the region. Our conference speakers and exhibitors shared comprehensive insights and examples on how Asia Pacific countries can strengthen their urban resilience to ensure the well-being of their citizens,” said Mr Colas.
He added that participants and delegations were treated to an array of interesting products and tools at the exhibition, which saw exhibitors from 17 different countries. These included threat and hazard detection tools, protection devices and security and rescue equipment.
Chairman of COGES Asia, Mr Jimmy Lau, said that the success of APHS 2015 also highlights the important role Singapore plays in the region’s security against natural and industrial threats.
“Due to its geographic location and diplomatic relationships with neighbouring countries, Singapore is the region’s disaster relief coordination centre, which makes it significant to bring together overseas dignitaries and renowned industry experts here to discuss critical issues on urban resilience.
“We’re looking forward to building on the success of the inaugural edition of APHS in the next two years,” said Mr Lau.
