OT systems are a prime target due to their criticality and the potential impact if these systems are disrupted. As the number and capability of threat actor targeting OT increases, so too does the need for robust cyber security controls.
However, the complexity, scale, and long-standing nature of OT systems often means organisations can lack a holistic view of their environment, which undermines their ability to implement effective cyber security measures. Traditionally, OT networks were isolated (or ‘air-gapped’) from the internet and external systems. However, modern operational demands have led to increased connectivity as networks now integrate with enterprise systems, third-party vendors and cloud services. This makes designing appropriate security controls increasingly critical, to reduce the risks to previously isolated systems.

- ASD: Careful Adoption of Agentic AI Services
May 1, 2026
Agentic artificial intelligence (AI) systems increasingly operate across critical infrastructure and defence sectors and support mission-critical capabilities. As agentic AI systems play a growing operational role, it is crucial for defenders to implement security controls to protect national security and critical infrastructure from agentic AI-specific risks. Agentic AI can automate repetitive, well-defined and low-risk tasks. However, ...
- Copy Fail vulnerability allows attackers to gain root access on virtually any modern Linux distribution
April 30, 2026
A working exploit written in Python (later released in other programming languages as well) consists of about ten lines of code and uses standard system calls that are indistinguishable from normal system activity. Kaspersky explain what the CVE-2026-31431 vulnerability, unofficially named as Copy Fail and published on April 29, is. Kaspersky also have some advice on ...
- Nasty cPanel vulnerability probably exploited as a 0-day
April 30, 2026
Emergency patches are available for a critical vulnerability in cPanel and WHM that allows attackers to bypass authentication and gain root access to servers managed using it. Given that cPanel and WebHost Manager (WHM) control panel help manage properties for 70 million domains, by some estimates, and the critical severity of CVE-2026-41940 (9.8), the vulnerability is ...
- Adapting Zero Trust Principles to Operational Technology
April 29, 2026
Zero trust (ZT) offers a modern, adaptive approach to cybersecurity by eliminating implicit trust and continuously validating access based on identity, context, and risk. ZT principles assume a breach has already occurred and are designed to limit threat actor movement and potential damage. For operational technology (OT), applying ZT requires careful consideration because OT systems interact ...
- Governments on high alert after CISA snuffs out Firestarter backdoor on fed network
April 24, 2026
A US federal agency was successfully targeted by a previously unknown backdoor malware called Firestarter, according to CISA cybersnoops and their UK counterparts – neither of which disclosed the agency’s name. Federal Civilian Executive Branch (FCEB) agencies include NASA; Homeland Security itself (cyberworkers at CISA are part of an operational unit in Homeland Security); the FBI; the DoJ; the IRS; the ...
- Apple fixes iOS bug that kept deleted notifications, including chat previews
April 23, 2026
Apple has released a software update that deals with an issue that could allow deleted notifications to be retrieved. Something that, in at least one reported case, was used by law enforcement during forensic analysis. Apple fixed the issue in iOS and iPadOS versions 18.7.8 and 26.4.2 (check availability for your device at those links). The ...
