Huawei has appointed a cyber security officer for its operations in Australia. Malcolm Shore, who started this month, has worked for the New Zealand government overseeing its information systems. He follows the example of John Suffolk, the former UK government chief information officer, who has been with Huawei as global cyber security and privacy officer since 2011. According to his LinkedIn profile Shore was with BAE Systems Applied Intelligence before joining Huawei. He also worked for Australia’s National Broadband Network (NBN) as principal security officer for three years until September 2014. He was earlier head of security at Telecom New Zealand – now Spark. John Lord, chair of Huawei Australia, said: “Dr Shore is well respected in the information security sector and has a strong understanding of our products and people.”
