During Exercise Dynamic Mariner 25, experts from the NATO Communications and Information Agency’s (NCIA) Cyber Rapid Response Team (RRT) deployed to counter a simulated malware threat aboard the Turkish ship TCG Gaziantep.
Dynamic Mariner 25 is a tactical level live exercise, sponsored by Allied Maritime Command (MARCOM). The main purpose of the operation is to test NATO’s maritime strength, interoperability, and rapid response capabilities, ensuring that Allies stand ready to protect the sea domain in every threat environment scenario. Within hours, NCIA cyber experts successfully identified and neutralized the threat using technology and equipment. The team investigated the nature of the simulated cyber-attack to assess its scope, contain the infection, and secure the ship’s communication systems.
